Borgo Smeraldo on Costa Smeralda
Set on a promontory overlooking the unspoilt part of the Costa Smeralda, the seven villas of Borgo Smeraldo are built with exposed stone and wood in the characteristic style of the Stazzi, the farmhouses of the north-east of the island.
Each villa has two or three independent double suites with a large living area and kitchen, and a terracotta and wood exterior around a private heated swimming pool set in a natural garden of myrtle, juniper and lentisk.
Villa Ginestra is the village house as a child would imagine it: different heights, stone exterior, wooden windows, a small terrace on the upper floor.
It houses two double suites and a living area with kitchen where local woods and fine fabrics in pastel colours of plum and cream combine with contemporary carpets and handmade lamps. The terracotta and juniper staircase leads upstairs to a third suite with a romantic sleeping area overlooking the sea, a vanity area with a double walk-in wardrobe and a granite and wrought iron terrace from which the morning sun streams in.
It is perhaps the most elegant suite in the hamlet, with its mélange of colours ranging from cream to turquoise, gold to green and its traditional ceiling of cane and chestnut beams. In the private garden, on the side facing the sunset, is the private heated swimming pool with teak, local stone and terracotta poolside.
